小樽市指定歴史的建造物

旧作左部商店蔵

建築年：明治初期

構造：土蔵造

1世紀以上にわたり厳しい風雪に耐えてきた建物です。蔵は、母屋に付属し、物を格納するため、耐火構造にすることが必要でした。小樽の蔵は、はじめ土蔵造りが多く、明治後期から次第に外壁に石を張り付ける木骨石造に変わりました。本建築は、屋根や壁など土蔵造りの特徴を伝える代表的なもので、妻壁（三角形になった壁面）の植物をあしらう模様は、外壁のアクセントになっています。平成15（2003）年に外観が修復されています。

The Former Sakusabe Shop Storehouse

Date of Construction:Late 1860s ~ Early 1870s

Structure:Clay Mortar

Having withstood the ravages of harsh winters for over a century, this structure was necessary as a method of fire prevention and attached to a main building as a storage area. Many of Otaru’s storehouses originally utilized this clay mortar construction, however near the end of the Meiji period laying stones to exterior walls and attaching them to wooden framing became more and more prevalent.  This construction is a representative example of the earlier style, evidenced by its characteristic clay mortar roof and walls, and plants pictured on the gable walls give accent to the exterior design. The exterior walls were renovated in 2003.
