旧塚本商店

建築年：大正9（1920）年

構造：木骨鉄網コンクリート造

この建物は、近江（滋賀県）出身の呉服太物商の店舗として建てられました。小樽では、明治37（1904）年の稲穂町大火で市街地を焼き尽くしたことから、防火構造の建物が普及しました。この建物も防火のために、外壁をコンクリートで塗り固め、出入口や窓を防火戸で覆う工夫が施されています。

This building, originally built as a store for a dry goods merchant from Oumi, Shiga prefecture, is an example of the fire-resistant architecture that became widespread in Otaru after the great Inaho-cho fire of 1904 ravaged the city. Fireproofing features include exterior walls mortared with concrete and fire shutters for the doorway and windows.
